Interview with Petr Špička about Tattoopuncture

Tattoopuncture is technically ink-rubbing (coloured scarification) with carbon, a black color that uses acupuncture points and can help you from various health problems and troubles.

What salon do you work in and what is your job.?

I am currently working in the INKdividual salon and doing only tattoopuncture. Nothing else attracts me. Although another skill I have is acupuncture analgesia, or numbness. This helps fellow tattoos and piercers and their clients a lot, especially now, when gels get banned.

So are you able to inject a needle somewhere and then the person doesn’t feel pain or feels much less?

Feels less and a little different. Clients describe the scarification: „You, it’s like you drew it with a pen“ or „Like … I feel it, but I don’t mind“.

And how did you come up with the idea of doing tattoopuncture.

While I was studying Chinese medicine, our teacher mentioned an old Chinese proverb: „Don’t go far with anyone who doesn’t have a scar below the knee“, which refers to a „longevity point“ – ZuSanLi, which increases endurance, persistence, improves immunity and digestion. The scar was still drilling in my head until I couldn’t go on, and I called Fousage.

And he has had experience with it, or has he been involved in it before?

FouSage (as far as I know) was one of the first people to deal with scarification in our country. At first he tried on himself, at second on me. When I called him that I wanted to do tattoopuncture, he gasped with enthusiasm that it was exactly what he wanted, that was how it all began and i had to come immediately. I did not understand a bit until he showed me a picture of Ötzi in the book History of Tattoos by Martin Rychlík.

And how far does the history of this method go, and who came up with it first? Was it Ötzi? Or someone else before him?

Ötzi was certainly not the author, nor his shaman, although it is the oldest find. This knowledge had to be acquired for at least several generations. His treatment is very sophisticated and today an acupuncturist would use the same points. A „five dam system“ is used, which is documented in China only two thousand years later.

Introduce us TP little bit, what you can treat with it, how and what results do you have with it?

Tattoopuncture is technically ink-rubbing (colored scarification) by carbon, black colour, above the acupuncture point. The effects are similar to the acupuncture of a this point, just subtle but more permanent. Every point works differently and not all acupuncture points are suitable for sustained stimulation. The results are great! It works. Especially the references of the first experimental rabbits surprised us, because they agreed on the details that we had experienced, which we did not tell them, nor can we read about them anywhere. So what can tattoopuncture improve (the word “cure” cannot be written, it can only be doctors). The scale is really great, from digestion through immunity, energy, emotions, psyche to spirituality. The important thing is to find the right point for that particular person on that aspect.

And what tools do you use? Numbing needle, scalpel for scarification and rub the color in?

Yes exactly. Of course, all the other things that are needed to maintain a sterile environment, it is a prehistoric method, but we do it today.

And scarification is done in a classic way, or is there a difference? I mean, for example, in the depth of the cut, or if the skin is removed.

Perhaps the most important tool is the knowledge, insight, and perception of the being I treat. The technique only allows lines. I can play a little with the width, but not much (and it depends on the location and type of skin.). The depth is clear, just as the tatter sticks, color do not hold on other depths.

And what about the placement, can TP be effectively done at any point on the body?

It won’t. Acupuncture points are where they are. For example, the point ZuSanLi is at a specific place below the knee, nowhere else, if you want its “services”, you have to put the tattoopuncture there. You can choose a theme, but not a place (just to the right or left). Points are all over the body, but every works differently.

What about you and your first attempts? How many volunteers was needed to try this method on before officially going to the salon?

First we tried to see if this technique worked at all. For testing we chose the universal point ZuSanLi, which we tested on 11 people. When we observed the same acupuncture effects, we started to test the ShouSanLi point in parallel, with the same success. Then we knew that tattoopuncture works as a technique and corresponds to acupuncture. We are now interested in the practical effects of the points treated. Generally and in specific cases.

How many of these points is on the human body that TP is performed on? And where are they?

Acupuncture points are 365 all over the body, but not all of them are for permanent stimulation, somewhere it is not technically possible. Anyway, we don’t do tattoopuncture with the „I want it here on my hand“ style, but „I want to help with this“ and then we find points, places, that will work in that way. We have a few tested points that we can offer as a menu, but there are a few. Another large group of points, places on the body, opens if the client has a chronic illness or problem. Of course, these points are not suitable for everyone.

So I can send you a wife who has been suffering from migraines for years, and you can recommend her where to put TP to help her? And if you decide to treat migraines for example, then you determine the appropriate place and then it depends on the person who chooses the motive, or even the motive plays a role?

Exactly. Migraines are interesting. The motive must meet certain parameters – size (different, according to the point, usually 1.5 – 3.5 cm), must be a line, somehow fill the area and be technically feasible. We will be happy to help with that. Content can be arbitrary. If it will resonate with the client and ideally with the essence of the acupuncture point, the better.

Does TP in the Czech Republic do anyone else? Or do you know of someone who would do it in foreign countries?

I don’t know about anyone. Me and Fousage. I saw some tattoes ala Ötzi, but they were by a needle. It does not work. Ink-rubbing does a few people around the world, but that someone would specifically use this technique for acupuncture points… I’m not saying no, but I don’t know about it.

And do you have an overview about how many people you and Fousage already tagged?

How many people, or how many tattoopunctures? I write down the realization., but I would have to count the people. It’s a bit addicting, a lot of people don’t end up with one.

How many people in the Czech Republic already have TP. At a guess whether it is 20 or more than 50.

I’d say about 40.

That’s a nice number. What do people most often „treat“ with TP, and what are the options besides those mentioned migraines? Are they going to treat back pain or poor sleep?

Here I would be very careful, treats doctors. TP definitely does not replace them. It can help where doctors do not know what to do or if one feels that it is not going anywhere. But you can’t go for tattoopuncture and drop off epilepsy pills the next day, that’s not how it works.

Sure. So what can TP help with?

With back pain and migraines, but obviously not always. If someone has a backache because after a car crash or he is working bent over a machine for 40 years, then picture on his calf does not relieve the pain, it can only alleviate it a little. In general, TP is able to improve the condition, practically in all areas, depending on the client how deep he wants to go, how thorough we make the diagnosis, the more appropriate point or points we can find. And as I said, it can be improved from digestion, through immunity, energy, emotions, psyche to spirituality. But obviously, we also have clients running in: „That ZuSanLi, the one for that energy, I want that too!“

Do you have any advice for prospective applicants? What they need to count on or prepare for?

People usually have a little bit of stage fright before the first cut, but then they complain that it was too fast, they want more, but you still won’t believe it until you experience it. You can prepare – make a day for yourself, make a good mood, eat well and rejoice. You can count with maximum care and respect on our part, and definitely something new.

What is the price of one session? I mean consultation, choosing a suitable motive and then carving the motive into the skin.

The price is flat for one tattoopuncture + consultations and i tis 2000CZK. In case of deeper diagnostics a little more, according to time.

Thank you for the interview and for the helpful information. I wish you every success at work and a lot of happy customers.
